This morning trying to unlock my MX-30 it was completely dead, not a light anywhere.
Mazda road assistance sent a tow truck which charged the 12V battery which was down to 9V according to the tow guy.
He hooked up a fast charger for 15 minutes and then a jump charge battery got it going.

It's now at the Mazda dealership and they are trying to figure out if it charging or not.
It seems they think there is a separate generator for the 12V but is that really true?

They say that the 12V is only charged while driving through the generator running only while driving... I have mostly driven shorter stints (15-40 km) the past three-four weeks but should the 12V really be flat...?

12v battery recall for software update - just had a letter from Mazda and had to book car in for software update ( service campaign) due to the ECU which may not be going into sleep mode after the ignition is turned off, they say in which case an electrical current may continue to flow causing the 12v battery to discharge, so requires a software update.

OK, good to know! Strange that the dealership didn't know about that...

Is that available as an OTA update or something that the dealership has to do?

It has to be done at the dealership, AM035A update. Should be done at the same time as AM036A update (hv battery heater start/stop modification) No ota car updates just yet. The 12v battery is charged from the ev batteries using a hv battery dc to 12v dc rail convertor. This means the 12v can only be charged when the car is active and draws charge from the ev hv batteries. The patch stops the 12v drain when the car is inactive but some ancillaries are still drawing power from the 12v battery.

Hi, a useful video, how to check your 12V battery charge without any tool.
