The cork linings around the centre console take it back to the roots of the company: The Toyo Kogyo Cork Company made cork back in 1920 before diversifying into engineering. This small nod to the past also adds something a little special to the Mazda MX-30.
Cork comes from the bark of cork oak trees, meaning it can be collected from the same trees over and over. To further minimise the impact on the environment, Mazda utilises cork in the car’s cabin of the MX-30.
A special coating on the cork improves durability while accentuating the natural characteristics of the cork.
In our days Corticeira Amorim's cork is used in Mazda's new 100% electric car. Integrated in the interior console of the MX-30, cork was selected because it is a natural, sustainable and biodegradable raw material, thus contributing to reduce the environmental footprint of the new model of the Japanese car manufacturer.
