DASH WARNING MESSAGE FOR DIRT ON FRONT RADAR SENSOR SURFACE

This applies to certain Mazda's and the MX-30 made before Sept 25, 2021.
VINS lower than JM1DR**B***100449 (produced before September 25, 2021).

Some vehicles may exhibit the warning messages “Safety and Driver Support Systems Temporarily Disabled” or “Front Radar Obscured. Drive Safely.” displayed in the instrument cluster despite no dirt on the front radar sensor while driving in specific locations as follows:

Road conditions may apply to....
1. Roads with continuous elevated road ways on one side or tall walls on one side.
2. Inside tunnels with an overall rounded shape.
3. Roads with no reflective objects around.

This is caused by inappropriate decision logic of the control software in the front radar sensor.
To eliminate this concern, the control software of the front radar sensor has been modified.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPLACE FROM RADAR SENSOR WITH MODIFIED UNIT..

Mazda Part Number..
DN4J-67-XA0C
Sensor, Radar-Front
1
MX-30

NOTE...
  • Even after replacement, depending on the surrounding environment, if the reflected wave is very similar to dirt adhesion or if the non-reflective environment continues for a long time, the radar dirt warning message may occur as before the replacement.
  • If the front radar is covered with rain, snow, mud, etc., the radar dirt warning message may be displayed. This is not a malfunction, but rather a temporary suspension of radar operation due to conditions that do not allow for normal transmission and reception of radar waves.

Ash8, here is my experience with Mazda on this

Look at this known problem...it has happened to me a few times when all appeared clean. What do we do?

"Give us photographic evidence the next time it happens so we can investigate further"

But how can I take photos if it happens only when I am driving?

"Ensure you have a passenger with you"

End of conversation. This fault is not easily replicated so I feel Mazda have a get out clause re reporting a problem/complaint. I will just leave it...not worth the hassle at the moment

No it's not new and is an issue for all brands, you seriously believe Mazda should be accountable for owners who don't clean their car or because of certain weather conditions.?

This issue goes back years, about 2012 to be exact for Mazda, there have been modifications to cameras and software, but there will always be conditions that will trigger ⚠ warning.
So you would rather not be warned with a system that is not sensitive enough?

Mazda does not wriggle out of anything, if owners do the right thing, then Dealers and Mazda reciprocates.
And yeah not all dealers are perfect just like owners are not.

Ash8, I agree. Having dealt with the same dealership over many years a mutual trust now exists. I am at the stage where I might get an invite to their xmas 🥳 party. This particular fault, with its transient nature, is not easy to pin down as a fault or a blip. Its also very difficult to replicate on a test drive. So I understand the dealer reluctance as I would have been exactly the same in my old engineering days. Most people, myself included, are inclined to go with the blip and take no further action. However I thought I would ask the question.

So if you wish this to be taken seriously you need to gather evidence ahead of a report to ensure you are definitely experiencing the issue and not just raising it for the sake of raising it. Work with the dealership and they will work with you.

And yes Mazda do take ownership problems seriously but they are dependent on the front door, dealerships, doing the right thing by their customers. As in life some are good, some bad....and owners fall into that category.

  • Perhaps this as outlined in the note?
