Welcome to the forum!
I tend to drive my MX30 mostly in ‘D’. I played with the 5 options a lot until I found out that the use of the brake initially uses the motor resistance instead of the physical brakes to lower speed. By doing so the regeneration works exactly the same as when using the steering wheel paddles. Try this and watch at the charge meter in your dashboard. Only when you pass the maximum regeneration your physical brakes will kick in. When driving in the city you can adjust the setting for more comfort and when driving up- or downhill you can change setting as well to get more power available (uphill) or to regenerate and lower speed when driving downhill.
