Hello all & Merry Christmas...

So I really do like the MX-30, visited our local dealer and had a look (not driven), my 3 x weekly commutes from Kent to London is a 68/70 mile round trip (no charging option in the office) which would be a mixture of motorway (65mph) then typical start/stop London traffic.

I asked the dealer if I could rent the car for a day to see if it would handle a standard day on a single homebased charge but they we not interested.

I suppose not charging to 100% at home at night would reduce it's success, that linked with some natural capacity drop over time means this car possibly isn't for me..

I have realised that I am bit of a snob so my options are this little Mazda or a used Tesla, seen the MG's all the Korean's, Nissan Leaf etc but they do not float my boat at all...

Such a shame as I really like this car, was sure I would have it for a year or so then pass it onto my wife and I would move onto teslas etc...

Thanks for reading,

Hi, with a mix of highway/city in summer, you can do around 150-160km. If temperature goes near 0C, think around 120-130km.
I'm in Canada, and right now at -5C, I can do your run but you must not be stressed out with low range :D

Do you cross few Fast Chargers on your way home? Any possibility to charge your car on a standard outlet at your job?

Thank you for the reply/info

There are no chargers at work but there probably are some on the way home but I'm looking to do both ways from the overnight home charger to save me some commuting time..

So, if its 70miles total per day (112km).. you'll be ok 99% of the time on 100% charge. It's not a big deal since you'll do it 3 times per week.
I don't think you have -30C winter days in UK :D

Hello MB,
I live in The Netherlands so our climate is very much similar.
My commute is 77 miles (124 km) round trip. The fast majority of my trip is motorway with often traffic jam. I tend to use cruise control set at 100km/h.
I always do this on a 80% charge except when it is very cold like last week.
Never had range anxiety and never had to stop for an extra charge.

Afternoon, thanks for the reply & that sounds more like my journey...

I really like this car but feel it soo tight margin wise on the range, what is the charge level when you get home form your commute?..

Hello MB, I tend to have a charge level around 15% left on average. It is very much temperature depending. The cabin heater/airco consumes quite some energy. On colder days I always use pre conditioning before I leave in the morning and before I leave the office.

Hello MB,
I admit that I was nervous about the range just after we got the car but in real life it is less of an issue than many people think. Only on occasion we have to charge the car along the road. This is only when making longer longer trip but be honest, do you mind a cup of cofffee after an almost two hours drive? It is a great car to drive under all circumstances. We also have an ICE but that has been degredated to ‘second’ car and it feels like ancient when I have to drive it when my wife uses the MX-30. Good luck with your decision!

Hi Mark,
Unless you drive super aggressively and really fast on the highway this sounds pretty ideal to me. Fits like a glove. In London it wont consume much. EVs and hybrids looove start stop trafic. So range wise its a perfect match. I d go for it😃
Its a treat to commute in the MX 30. In my humble opinion. I d go for it. Provided you get a good offer from the dealer obviously.
The later MX 30s charge faster on wall boxes and on fast chargers so 11 kW AC and 50 kW DC will make your life slightly easier.

In my experience a 70 mile round trip isn't a problem, being a single motor EV the motorway is where the MX-30 is a bit of battery power hog (the dual motor EV tend to have the rear motor for high torque at low speed, and the front motor for efficiency at speed), but the MX-30 uses very little battery pottering around city traffic. In terms of comfort/drivability, you won't find a nicer EV at the price (the trade off being the small battery).

Also download all the EV charging apps... I have discovered that there are far more charge points around than I realised, and annoyingly they don't all appear on all apps  New charge points appear every day!

Thanks for the reply...

I opted for a Tesla Model 3 in the end... I really liked the MX-30 and probably would have purchased one if the dealer had been a bit better at their jobs...

Thanks again
