Hi all, were having issues getting our home charger fitted.
We are being told this is due to a shortage if chips.
Has anyone had their chome charger fitted lately please? If so how long did you have to wait?
Thankyou

Had ours installed within 10 days of ordering the car. All organised and paid for by our Mazda dealer.

Although we don’t actually need it at the moment as the car developed a fault and we haven’t seen it since Tuesday? Here it is……

Hi Shelly2604 I’m also having big issues with home charger. Mazda are giving me a refund of £500 because new motion are swamped out. I don’t think it’s fair though as the charger new motion installs is dearer with another company. Also my network company have got to upgrade my supply as they say it’s looped. 8 to 10 weeks for this alone. All this is not advised to prospective buyers. Hey ho still love the car.

These were the people who did ours

FM Services Group, Ray's House, Unit 10 Highdown Road,
Leamington Spa, CV31 1XT
T: 03333 444570 (Local rate)

I should point out we are on the other side of the issue. We’ve got a charger but the cars been back at the dealer for a week awaiting a new charging unit. The car has precisely 147 miles on the odometer! 🤣🙄

The zappi charger made by Myenergi gets some of the best reviews and is made near Grimsby. You can program charging times through the app which new motion can’t do. They have a 6 week order time due to demand.

Originally had the offer from Mazda for the NewMotion. Waited four weeks, called NewMotion to be told it would be at least another 6 weeks. Enquired with Octopus Energy and opted for Wallbox Pulsar Plus, placed order, was called the same day, later that day email confirming installation date, 3 weeks. Called back NewMotion to cancel order, was told that 6 weeks was what they were telling people but in reality couldn’t give a time scale. Went back to Mazda with this info and they credited me with the cost of the Octopus quote.
Situation not helped by Shell undergoing a massive public EV charger install and also Volvo giving away the same charger with their EV’s.

We used smart home charge. Compare Home EV Chargers and Get An Installation
Very straight forward and turned around in about 2 weeks for an ohme smart charger

New Motion took approx 3 mths from order to install; the whole period was marked by obfuscation and delaying tactics. Eventually, Mazda go on the case and I got the installers contact details, then sat on them. Actual install was very good - Joju are the installers- but charger trips when trying to use schedules charger, so they are now going to come back and replace - no date confirmed; there is also some confusion as to whether you have to subscribe to use the online portal functions- some people have it free, but I had to complete bank details, though have not been charged as yet. Actual charger is very large -my wife went ape - but luckily it was installed in the garage.
If I had my time again, I’d demand money from Mazda/ dealer and sort it myself.

Hi, I've just had the same issue, in the end I took the £500 refund from Mazda and had a 32a commando socket fitted outside, then I bought an Ohme cable which is on offer for £199 if you're an Octopus energy customer so altogether this cost me £300 installed, which is great because the other £200 has payed for 12 months insurance 😁

Hi PPJ I am thinking of going down the same route as you. The only thing is, with the commando plug fitted do you need a dedicated 32 amp supply. I live just out side Manchester & ENW are saying for a home charger I need a new supply as my supply is looped. 8 to 10 weeks & a 70 metre dig. I don’t mind putting a 32 amp radial supply from consumer unit to garage.

I just had a 32a MCBO put in my consumer unit and a cable ran out to an external 32a commando socket, didn't tell the electrician what it was for, then bought the ohme cable and mounted it next to the socket. Now I'm good for 80a on my main fuse but I mainly charge at night so nothing else is on at that point. The ohme cable is designed as portable and just plugs in to the commando socket. It's all too easy to get tied down by legislation when going down the olev grant route, nothing I have done is unsafe but wouldn't pass an olev ev installation criteria but it doesn't have to as it's not technically an installation. In the end it's up to you what you feel safe with.

Hi Paul, yes tried it out and it works great, I bought it as a special deal which is available to Octopus energy customers basically half price, Octopus have a tariff called Octopus Go which is only 5p kwh between 1230am and 430am. If you search Octopus Ohme cable you should come across the deal. Also if anyone is thinking of changing to Octopus let me know as I can give you a link code that will give us both £50 credit.
