How Do You Make Sure a Used Car Is Actually a Good Buy?

Hey everyone, I’m about to pull the trigger on a used car, but I want to make sure I’m not missing any red flags. The seller has been really open about everything, and I’ve checked service records, but I keep hearing stories of people finding out unexpected things after they buy.

For those of you who’ve bought used before, what steps do you always take before sealing the deal? Just want to make sure I’m being as thorough as possible.

If you are in the UK I’d recommend using a car checking service, three examples are CarVertical, Total Car Check, Carwow; if you’re not in the UK I expect there are similar in your location.

Sounds like you’re doing all the right things so far, and it’s smart to be extra cautious. One thing that’s helped me in the past is checking out this Facebook page (Log into Facebook) related to the car’s make or model—people there often share little things to watch for that don’t always show up in official records or inspections. It’s a good way to catch those “if I had known earlier” kind of details before you commit.

We've had ours for 12 months now; faultless throughout as has been Android Auto which is connected wirelessly using a dongle.
