A question to the forum

I assume the mazda connected services in the car works via the mobile network to connect to a central server. It recognizes the car via its vin identity. When you load the app and register it needs the vin identity also to enable pairing with the car. When you access the app it communicates (via Internet or via mobile network to the internet) to the central server which in turn communicates with the car.

Is that an incorrect assumption and if so is there anyone in the forum that can put me straight...or confirm that my assumption is correct

Marcin, the car has a built in sim (esim) that communicates to the Mazda server. When the car is registered by Mazda the esim is paired with the cars VIN number and becomes active.

You must have the Mazda app on your mobile to communicate with the car and when you sign up you also have to enter the VIN to pair the car and your app.

So on one side of the server you have the car's communication link via the esim with the car's VIN identity. On the other side of the server is your mymazda app which also has the VIN identity.

So when the car wants to communicate with the app it sends its message to the server, a VIN handshake takes place and that message is passed to the app on your phone and vice versa.

This is purely for Mazda comms and nothing else

If you wish to connect to the outside media via the Internet you need Bluetooth paired or use appleplay or android auto via your mobile.

TCU (Telematics Control Unit) actually communicates via your own Network Provider (Phone) and not all networks are supported becasue of the various Transmission Frequencies used by Carrier in cars Modem and then country variations, at the moment just like some mobile phones not all carriers will work on the same phone.

Yes, the My Mazda App must also be correct and register/sync with Mazda/Carrier and your Phone and Car.

For Mazda it is early days, in the USA a TCU is also offered in current 2021~ CX-9 and CX-5 but uses a different carrier (I think T- Mobile), where their MX-30 (sold only new in California) uses Verizon phone carrier.
