This new "R" trademark filed back in June could be for the rotary engine range extender that Mazda had planned to put in the 2022 MX-30. But earlier this month it was reported that a Mazda spokesperson said "the timing of its introduction is undecided."

Could this trademark be an early sign that Mazda is still trying to launch it in 2022? Or even in 2023? I know it isn't much to go off of but there's a good chance the rotary extender will still happen.

BTW, some new trademarks were filed in Japan for what I'm guessing is its hybrid system with a rotary range extender. The most telling one is the symbol of a rotor with an inscribed "e"

I like the logo symbol for it but isn't e-Skyactiv R-EV a bit redundant? E-Skyactiv R or Skyactiv R-EV sounds much better to me.

Don’t put too much faith in trademark filings or even Mazda announcements. They announced that a Diesel Mazda6 was coming to the US a while back and even listed it on the website.

I heard they trademarked a bunch of CX numbers including CX-10 and CX-90. I would love to see a CX-10 but doubt we will ever see it in the US.
