Has anyone tried using a NON MAZDA SD card for the Navigation? Just in case, the US version of MX30, even Premium Plus, does not come with Navigation, and is being sold as a separate "Accessory" for US$450

Was browsing Amazon for some stuff and came across an SD card that supposedly works on CX-5, for $60. Since I primarily use my iPhone for GPS/navigation, I was not in the market for a $450 version of this lol but was curious enough about the cheaper one to ask if anyone's actually used it. Unfortunately, reviews for this item is in the single digit so not really counting on them lol

Alan is correct, why you can buy pirated or counterfeit SD Cards you can not Update them in Toolbox as your VIN will be locked out of Mazda system.
Maps that are on the card will work fine, you can just never update them.

Dont want to pay x12 for oem card. The fact that mazda releases 1-2 cards a year, and I am not going to own a car for more than three years, I will still save money. And sometimes updates are so minor that it's not worth paying for.

Anddron, as stated glad it worked. So long as you buy with the knowledge a cloned card will potentially not update if the original is locked to a vin fine. If the oem has not been used elsewhere then it will work fine also and could be updated. And If you are not bothered about updates also fine...and it gets the tsr working. We were merely pointing out that Mazda are clamping down on clones so buyer beware. I never liked the Mazda satnav database anyway and run Waze or Google maps for satnav and mainly use the mazda sd card for traffic sign recognition operation.

That because you registered in Toolbox with your OEM card first and car/card was registered by Mazda when originally installed at factory.
For cars that don't ever come with an OEM SD Navigation card from factory you can not update in Toolbox and VIN gets locked out by Here.

Owners car is locked out of map update on Mazda Toolbox due to unauthorized or counterfeit navigation SD card.

Ash8, I would like your opinion please. With the Mazda communication system on, for example, the MX30, sending info back and forward from the car to server and vica versa, is it possible, do you think, that at some stage in the future that could include the car sending satnav sd details to be matched to vin on the server? Can you see where this is going....

P.s info on nng

Hi Alan,
Yes a possibility as you know the MyMazda App is basically doing all that now with the Dealer Service Dept, with trouble codes and logged information, just like our Phones (Apple or Android) they will all be spying on us.

Mazda (Japanese) are very good not to trounce on their customers privacy, IMO any info that is transmitted now and in the future only includes cars VIN is purely for cars diagnostics, like battery info, any DTC's, distance travelled, temperatures, motor loads, charging times, accelerator pedal position, etc..
IMO I think this is all a good thing as it will make car brands better.

With Navigation while forged or counterfeit SD Cards will work providing CID passes the encrypted access files on Card, if the car has never been equipped with SD Card from factory then the Mazda Toolbox will lockout the SD Card out for any updates you will see above License Error warning inside Mazda Toolbox, even if person wants to buy Map updates they can not. But one can return the SD Card into car and will still work, at the moment they (NNG) have not written anything on the Card when in Toolbox App to stop owners from using counterfeits in their car, and frankly that could be a huge minefield for NNG and Mazda to go down, easier to target Sellers.

Like you said Mazda and more so NNG are aggressively targeting any Sellers of forged SD Cards and are lawyering up.

Interesting. What process takes place if one buys a card from the dealer? Does the dealer somehow attach VIN to the card at the time of the purchase or inform someone to update the server side with this info?
