Many people have been annoyed by the fake engine sound of the MX30. It so happens, a German fellow found a way to shut it off.

For those who do not understand German, this is how you do it.

1) Switch on the car by pressing the start button twice
2) Make sure you are still in Park
3) Press the brake and drive paddle simultaneously
4) Press five times the right flipper
5) Press five times the left flipper
6) Release the drive and break paddles
7) Shift to drive and go

With me it worked on the third attempt. To be honest, sound wise the difference is not very large because now you will not hear the fake sound but instead you will hear road noise and sometimes some wind noise as well. But I decided to keep it in this mode. I like this better.

Good Luck!

Hi Bert,

I'm about to take delivery of my MX-30 and I think I will eventually disable that fake engine noise. I'm curious to know if one can re-enable it following the same procedure though, in case I ever want to go back to that fake sound.
I also don't understand why Mazda does not make this as easy as checking/unchecking a box in a system menu, go figure ¯\(ツ)

Hi, I did not try to switch back to fake noise, but I imagine it must be the same procedure, or perhaps in reverse. But agreed, this should be a simple menu option.

Hello,

the process is completely reversible. Just do the same actions again. Keep in mind that, at least in my case, the possibility to switch off the sound has been accomplished by the recall action AM001A .

Did the proposed change yesterday.
Succesfully in one attempt.

Mind that while doing no. 1: Do NOT depress the brake pedal!
You should check being in Park before you start this change.
After depressing both brake and accelerator pedals you quickly start no. 4 and immediately perform no 5.
Pressing no. 4 and 5 have to be done in a rapidly way.

By The Way:
IMHO Tips or Tricks ought to be a separate forum page!
There might be more to figure out about strange or irritating settings.

I myself met two irritating settings that I like to change:
1. The message and sound telling the driver to keep his hands on the steering wheel.
I get this message often - with hands on the wheel - driving long, straight country roads for no reason at all.

2. The message and sound telling the driver to brake (the car slows down by itself), when there is a curve in the road to the left, with cars parked directly next to the road.

Not yet found a solution to kill these awkward and irritating messages for ever.

Joy of Joy! Like most people, I did the paddle flipping noise reduction exercise but still hated the sound that remained. In particular, the dreadful racket that arose when accelerating at 60mph truly irked me. This week, I had the software updates applied to my car. I asked the chap in service if they would find the software "dreadful fake noise off" switch and actuate. Well they did!!! Now, all noise is off and all that remains is the very faintest of motor/gear whine. Driving is now ultra quiet; the car is finally transformed to what it should always have been. Wonderful; thank you Mazda dealer. Now Mazda, put it is a software selectable option in EV settings.

If you go to the start of the thread and watch the video, you will see the "paddle flipping routine" that reduces the fake engine sound. It does not switch it off. I had done that immediately after it appeared on the German thread. It is better than nothing as the man says in the video but the reduced sound is very much still there. I could just about cope with the sound from standstill but the noise when travelling and accelerating at higher speed annoyed the hell out of me. Now, with the dealer having switched off the noise completely, the improvement is huge. The car is so much better now. Once the sound is off, I will guarantee that virtually no-one will want it switched back on but the obvious thing for Mazda to do is just put the on-off switch in settings. And finally, to give you an idea of what changes, try maximum regeneration braking at say 90 km/hr. With sound full on or reduced, there is a deep growl that actually didn't bother me. Now with the sound off, with maximum regeneration braking there is no sound at all! Just serene quiet.

I might be deaf but on mine I would say the procedure tuned off the fake engine completely. I now hear only real noise of tires ect at any speed. Not sure what mazda was thinking when adding this feature but we all agree that this should be an option in vehicle setting. I mean you can choose between 3 settings for blinker sound (never seen this on any other car) and then you cannot mod this one? They should offer loud - subtle - off.

Dear Marcel, you are on an english/US forum. Writing in Dutch, doesn't really slice the cake.

Maybe its 'off' already in my car, I don't really notice any fake sounds. Maybe it doesn't go above my music blasting..

Anyway : how do I replace the sound with a V8 soundtrack  ,

without putting a V8 in the engine bay or swapping the whole car for a V8.. 👀

The engine noise was OFF in my car on delivery. I tried driving it with it switched on but found that it got in the way of music clarity tbh.
