If we are to believe the press it will be entirely possible to store, in the same given volume and weight, twice the energy content. That would make the MX-30 a 71 kWh offering. Cost? Safety?
Yeah, depending upon how quickly the newer battery technologies can be commercialised, it would be a very real possibility that ~60kWh aftermarket (or even genuine Mazda!?) upgrades will appear in the not too distant future!

A 200mile MX-30 would be absolutely perfect for my use case.

One would hope that Mazda would also up the charge rate above 1.5C (which they are clearly limiting to try and preserve battery life, to meet their 8 year warranty).

I think Mazda made an assumption about potential use of the car (ok probably marketing/PR pushing it a bit too much to address the elephant in the room!) and did not get looped in the vicious circle of the other manufacturers. If you see current manufacturers are trapped into a simple equation. We want more range - so we need bigger batteries. But then bigger batteries are heavy. If the car is heavy we need bigger motors. But then a bigger motor needs more electricity, so we need bigger batteries.... and they keep "growing".

Now - having used my MX-30 for 1 month or so - I had no range issues. I actually realised that with my ICE mini I used to fuel up with 20-25£ that gave to the mini a 120-150m range if wind was helping :) And never though that was a problem. Yes - when you need to do a long trip you can fill the tank to the brim or can refuel in 5 minutes, which is not the case for EV. On the other hand having a big fuel tank on an ICE car is free of charge - while having a bigger tank on an EV is expensive and heavy.

Mazda found a good compromise IMHO (probably a 40KWh and 160hp being a better option). I was checking the DS3 EV which is probably the closest EV to the MX-30 - it comes with 50KWh and 136hp and costs aprox 10k more than MX-30 (with similar equipment) and I guess is not fast at all....

Reg the miles x Kwh - I have found really interesting this wowcar test - also shows that the mustang with a massive smaller battery didn't really deliver any different result compared to the others. You will see that in normal life 3.4-3.7 is the common value. Not sure how much you get on your MX-30 (I am at 3.5-3.6) keeping in mind this car is shaped like a normal car and not like a star ship (as some other are...)

With all this talk about modding I get the feeling you're having a bit of buyer's remorse already... Maybe you should have gone with an MGZS?

Lol, no I just come from an MX-5 background where we used to mod the hell out of our cars... This car is very much going to be a family city runabout, which I might take out at weekends and have some fun on the country lanes... The only difficulty comes when 2 or 3 times a year I need to do longer trips to visit family, so charge stops will need to be scheduled into the trip planning.

97% of our driving use case won't be over 20 miles per day. We've done the sums, the MX-30 does fit with our current lifestyle.
