Hi everyone. Very new to electric vehicles but I've been dismayed at the charging speed of my MX30. I only got 7% in almost 2 hours the other day at a 7KW free public charger and today I got 75% at a paid-for 50KW charger but that took 2 hours. Do you think I have a problem? Thanks in advance

Do I think you have a problem...no but join the slightly miffled/baffled mx30 club. This forum is full of chats about charging times, cold weather effects on ev batteries etc. The mazda claim of 20 - 80 % fast charge in 40 minutes is based on that charge range and the test area conditions. Evidence shows a slow down of fast charge rate beyond about 55% and also when batteries get colder. So at what % did you start the fast charge? Also public chargers can vary in effectiveness and not deliver the advertised rate of charge. It sounds like you public charger was perhaps only delivering 2.3kwh?

Type slow charge into this forums search community above and have a look. Lots of clever mx30 owners feedback and rational re charging.

As discussed on this forum we reckon the mx30 has only got about 30.5kwh battery available within the 0 - 100% range and the rest of the advertised 35.5kwn is the upper and lower buffer. The ac charger control in the car limits you to 6.6kwh max. So on ac you cannot charge above that rate. So do the sums re ac charging timescales. Then the other factors come into play. DC charging (50kw) is another game re state of charge v timescales v control v conditions that are beyond me. See the links below:

Alan - many thanks for this. Clearly I have more learning and understanding to do. I'll check the links you provided and I appreciate the time you've take to answer my message. I don't understand it all but I shall do one day I guess! Thanks again. Craig

Just to further reinforce Alan's point about AC charging - there's a public charge point I use near me which is 7.7KW with 2 connectors. One of the connectors lets me charge pretty much bang on 6.6KW, the other one is more like 1.4KW making it quicker and cheaper to charge at home if the good one is in use. Check comments on ZapMap to make sure the chargers are working properly as well.

Ah. Thank you. I'm learning lots of little tips.
I've done a few 250 mile journeys in mine and when using the fast DC chargers (usually Instavolt) I can get about 75-80% in under an hour. I have done North Wales to Devon 3 times with stops at Leominster and Bristol only. Must say i use A roads as much as i can for the regen.
