Like many people I find the combinations of colours 'too much' on my car.

Mostly the different grey for the wheels and roof. If only Mazda made that the same colour..

I asked around, and wrapping the roof edge and A/C pillars and the sides of the hatchdoor "black" would cost € 850,- .

Then it would be a "23 model directly.. :p

But I started to think about other wheels. I found this simulator, and quite affordable wheels.

I found out that not only the colour of the wheels greatly affects the looks, but mostly lowering the suspension !

Below I sumulated a set of 18" borbet LX18 wheels and a 60mm lowering of the springs.

Who knows if this is allowed by Mazda ? Maybe the high ground clearance is needed to protect the battery ?

I planned to lower the car H&R makes a kit for it.
In my opinion this car sits way to high and have a loose spring rate.
Its not a 4x4.

I will do it this winter time.

P.s. its your car do whatever you want with it doesn't matter what mazda thinks about it.

Sure its my car, but I'm thinking of settings. Camber/castor toe-in/-out. The the 'wheel flight' could clash with settings for stability control.
I know quite a bit about cars, but not about suspension specificly. Are you sure you want to do it yourself ? Seems to be a 1½h job in a garage.
They have the tools, like spring compressors you would never use again.

All the work on my cars is done by me.
I dont trust garages at all, have plenty experience that confirms this.

After changing springs a realignment is needed.

Yess when lowering the car the geometry will change the car but i will lowered with 3-4cm so this is not a big deal at all.

On my rx8 i do the alignment myself.

I just send an email to a trusted tire fitter. He has supplied tires for all my cars (even the mini-tractor) for many years. I asked his advice on all aspects.
From replacing the wheels/tires to wheelspacers (or replacement wheels to the same end ), lowering suspension ánd tire wear / wheel alignment..

I will inform you of his advice/comments.

Why I agree,
I would be careful as this may have new car warranty implications (if lowered too much), particularly main Battery structure and safety, it could be said the lower that the car is to the road the higher the risk of damage.

Warranty will probably be more difficult with some parts when lowered but i take that risk.

I cant see why lowering this car by about 3-4cm will be an issue specially for the battery structure.

The ground clearance is pretty high specially with the flat underside this car has.
Just don't go flat out over speedbumps and it should be fine.

And i think lowering the car and having stiffer springs will increase the handling a lot of this car.

I think when you ask the Mazda importer what parts are explicitly limited in warranty if you lower it 20/30/40mm, they need to give an exhaustive list to which exclusions refer.

They can hardly object to 20mm since with the lowered body come tougher springs and the max travel will not increase much.

A good reference would be, to load the car with the maximum allowed load and then measure the ride height. Could be it lowers 50mm !

With 40mm you would get a different angle, which could translate in more driveshaft ( to the wheels ) wear. But that would be beyond 100.000km anyway in this day and age.

But with modern cars the steering and braking / ABS etc are all modeled by computer. It could be ( I do not know if this happens ), the position of the wheels vertically is used

as a reference for some critical value in the modeling. Then some braking action could be generated due to stability control or such.

I'm just brainstorming, I do not know which variables they measure and/or use. And Mazda will not tell you.

But on the other hand, companies would not sell these, if such a risk exists..

Well, I figured it all out. But the final costs are just to high for me to really do it.

Widening the track is best to change from ET45 to eg ET40. That gives +10mm trackwidth.

Lowering 40mm would be a problem with the speedhumps we have here in the Netherlands.

So in order to reduce the effect of the lowering, I chose for tires which are -kind off- illegal, as the diameter is more then +2% (MOT).
So real speed is not 120kmph but 124,14kmph.

Diameter of the wheels/tires are now + 23,9 mm . This means ca. 12mm less lowering and 12mm more into the wheelarches above.

Total investment, without fitting the springs & tires, and without the sensorvalves to transmit tire pressure to the car is around € 1900.

Seller of the tires is not interested in buying my almost new wheels/tires (4500km). So I guess ebay would come to max € 500.

Rests € 1400 plus valves : € 1670. Fitting springs and freight etc, totall € 2200- . So if I sell the tires : € 1700.

Tires go 5mm deeper in, stick 15mm more out. Front lowering effectively -23mm, rear -28mm.
Tires sticks in front 47mm higher in the arch, rear 52mm.
