I have a problem with cables! One of the big missing spec in the mx-30 was the wirless charger for mobile phone (yep if you use android auto or carplay wired not biggie but still in 2022 this should now be a standard - and aa and carplay should be wirless too... another topic though!)
In the endless process of solving this I ended up with two solutions - one can easily be replicated, the otherone is diy. Sharing the outcome in case anyone is missing this feature too! For both options I have used a 12v fast charger adaptor connected to the cigarette lighter plug. I will not recommend to use the usb ports as always powered and not providing fast charge.
1 - custom paper box
I have created a custom paper box that holds a fast wireless charger and has an extra space for the car key/garage fob. The cable goes in the cork channel under the consolle straight to the 12v socket. The base of the box is shaped to click in the recessed area of the cup holder. The charger is a 15w fastcharger finished in fabric (amazon 16£).
Pros - charges fast - extra storage (I have the samsung z flip so my phone is small)
Cons - looks a bit rough as handmade - both cup holders are gone (unless you remove the box) - works with my mobile only unless you skip the key compartment
2 - Ikea wireless powerbank
Found today in ikea this new powerbank wireless charger. Believe it or not it is the PERFECT size and the fabric is not far from our seats (might be a perfect match with the white leathette trim - in my case is slightly lighter grey). Just added some rubber pads to click in the cup holder. This thing has an anti-slip + print that keeps the mobile in place.
Pros - perfect integration - works with any size of mobile - 1 cup holder still functioning - being a powerbank keeps charging the phone even when ignition is off. Can be remove and taken away when leaving the car if needed.
Cons - unfortunately output is 5v therefore is a standard speed charger (Ikea really behind on this with any charger they sell).
Now testing both solutions before deciding which one to keep. In case Ikea costs 22£ (comes without cable though) item number being 504.765.33
I have ordered now an angled cable for a neater installation - 50cm is the exact distance from the pad to the 12v charger. Will post an updated pic once received
